My smoothie and juice diary in the tropics

Whilst away in Costa Rica, I devoured a number of amazing dishes. But what I’d like to write about right now are the smoothies and juices. Deeeeeeeeeeliiiiiiiiiiiiiciousssssssss!!!

So, here are just a few of the many variations I was lucky to sample

Day 1 – it needed to be something really authentic to the tropical climate I was in – something I couldn’t duplicate easily on home territory so I went for this one: passionfruit, mango, mint, papaya and coconut water. It tasted like drinking heaven with a straw.

Day 2 – I fancied something filling and energising, something that would keep me going for hours –  Tahini, banana, papaya, oats, cranberries, cacao beans, honey, vanilla, cinnamon. I was definitely full! But then again, it could have also been the huge bowl of granola and fruit I had along side it!!

Day 3 – Todays smoothie was key lime pie! Avocado, vanilla essence, a squeeze of lemon and a squeeze of lime, a drizzle of maple syrup, a banana and some water. I say no more. Other than try it.

Day 4  – Even though it was hot hot hot here, I really felt like having this hot Indian Chai one morning. It was so delicious – various chai spices (cardomon, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg,) made with almond milk and not too sweet. Really warming, soothing and above all tasty.

Day 5 – Green juice morning – cucumber, celery, apple, ginger, parsley, lemon and water. Fresh, cold and green.

Day 6 – And here it is – the greenest smoothie of the week – the superfood one! 1/2 tsp of chlorella, 1/2 teaspoon of spirulina, 1 cacao bean, banana, mango, passionfruit and water. I’ve never drunk a drink so fast in all my life!

Last day – This one needed to super special so I went for a healthy mix juice – carrot, orange, beetroot, apple, celery, ginger. I was not disappointed.
